Gout is one of the types of arthritis. There are a number of causes for this disease. These include:

Gout attacks can also occur in your knees, ankle or foot as well. Such attacks can stay for a few days or they can take weeks after which the pain ends. The second attack takes place after months or years. The doctor has to be visited even if the pain for the gout has ended. There is still a danger to your joints from the buildup uric acid which caused the gout attack.

The disease is diagnosed through a serious a questions about the symptoms and a physical exam by the doctor. The examination of the uric acid crystals can also be done by the doctor by taking a sample of fluid from your joint. The best test to diagnose gout is this one. In order to measure the amount of uric acid in your blood, a blood test can also be run by the doctor.

A shot of corticosteroids is given by the doctor in order to stop the attack of gout. The doctor may also give a huge regular dose of one or more than one medicines. As soon as the symptoms begin to disappear, the doses will lessen. If the treatment is started at the right time, it will take 24 hours to begin getting relief from the attack of gout. Giving rest to the joint which hurts will aid in easing the pain caused by the attack of gout. Other medications which will aid in feeling better include the ibuprofen or various other anti-inflammatory medicines. However, aspirin should be avoided in this regard. This is because; it increases the level of uric acid in the blood, thus making the gout worse.
